Medical Yoga
In 2011, I supervised the Japanese translation of Yoga as Medicine (Timothy McCall M.D.) and I started using the term “Medical Yoga” to make Yoga as Medicine more understandable to Japanese people.
While evidence is accumulating through the tireless efforts of researchers, I understand that there are many barriers that need to be overcome in order for yoga to be used in the medical field, and I have been working to resolve them.
Certified Yoga Therapists
I had been certified as Yoga Therapist by International Association of Yoga Therapists since 2009, and I have been advocating to promote and implement yoga therapy in Japan. I am aware that I am not a nationally certified medical professional. Therefore, in 2021 I entered the School of Public Health of Kyoto University in order to learn proper communication about the evidence of yoga.
Yoga in Medical settings
I started to teach yoga classes as a welfare benefit for healthcare professionals in Jikei Hospitals in Tokyo. I understood the procedure that yoga can be passed on to patients only after the health care professionals are convinced.
